Vijayaratnam Foundation, the Malaysian Chapter of RYTHM Foundation, in collaboration with Kalpana Dance Theatre, presented MAHAMAYA, an exquisite, traditional dance performance to raise funds for Taarana, a school for children with special learning needs.
Fulfilling her long-nurtured dream to dance for a cause, Datin Sri Umayal Eswaran took to stage for the first time in 3 years to raise funds for a project extremely close to her heart – Taarana.[/inlinetweet] The duet with Nritta Ganeshi, whose Odissi style dance complemented Datin’s Bharata Natyam, saw a full house and was a true visual masterpiece.
The diverse styles of Bharata Natyam and Odissi was used as a tool to demonstrate the essence of devotion that transcends the power of illusion.[/inlinetweet] The audience was clearly moved by their powerful and compelling 90 minute performance that saw a thunderous standing ovation. The crowd was also treated to orchestral works of art by O.S. Arun, the prince of Carnatic Music, and Dheeraj Kumar Mohapatra, Orissa’s Nightingale.
Mahamaya was a grand success in its number one aim – to raise funds for Taarana. While the school is an invaluable resource to children with special needs owing to the level of care and expertise it offers, its scope is limited in terms of financial strength. Through the generous donations of donors and individuals, the school hopes to reach out to and impact even more children with special educational needs.
