On 25 April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook Nepal, leaving the country with more than 8,000 fatalities and even more displaced and injured.
In response to this tragic event, RYTHM Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the QI Group, got in touch with Better Nepal Foundation, an orphanage of more than 40 boys and girls who are beneficiaries of RF’s support and had been struggling to cope with the aftermath.
At the same time, Nepali QNET leaders turned to the company to express their heartfelt request to send immediate assistance to those who were seriously affected in their hometown. On behalf of the leaders, Stephen So, Operations Manager of QNET Hong Kong, contacted the Nepal Consulate in Hong Kong to find the best way to send cash relief to the victims, and on 17 June, QNET HK and RYTHM Foundation successfully turned over the fund to the Consulate to use in their disaster relief operations.
The Nepal Consul General informed QNET HK that Nepal has so far received a total donation of $5.2 million from different organisations in Hong Kong, making the country one of the highest contributors to the Nepal earthquake relief fund.
“There is no question that the situation in Nepal is still very unstable due to many strong aftershocks,” said Stephen. Less than a month since the first earthquake, on 12 May, a 7.3 magnitude quake hit Nepal once again, followed by a 6.3 magnitude aftershock minutes later. “It will take a long time for Nepal to recover, so we are inviting everyone to contribute what they can by donating to credible humanitarian organisations which are involved in ongoing earthquake relief efforts.”
QNET and RYTHM Foundation will continue to be involved in the recovery and rebuilding phase as they help the Better Nepal Foundation rebuild.
Is qnet works in Nepal ..??
